Children can learn about cultural diversity at the 5th Annual International Film Festival for Children!

The Hickory International Council and the Footcandle Film Society of Catawba County are presenting the 5th Annual International Film Festival for Children (IFFC) between Monday April 24 – Thursday April 27, 2017 simultaneously at the Drendel SALT Block Auditorium, Maiden High School, and Newton-Conover Middle School.  The emphasis is on children in 4th – 6th grades.

The main mission of the HIC is to help Hickory become more international.  “It is important to highlight cultures from outside the United States and work together to understand and accept the similarities and differences” said Hani Nassar, the HIC Chair.

The 2017 IFFC films to be shown at the event will be announced at the end of March after the three school systems have decided on the list.

Additionally, the HIC incorporated children into the event by announcing a poster competition. The  competition rules were provided to all public and private school in the area.

The mission of the HIC is to act as a forum for the local and global international community and to act as a liaison between that community and the city government in order to promote goodwill, mutual understanding, cooperation, and respect among citizens.
